On a Day When I Couldn't Get Motivated, I Tried Talking to an AI

“I don’t want to do anything today…”
Everyone has days like that.
You just stare blankly at your phone, and before you know it, the day is over.
You feel a sense of urgency, but your body just won’t move—
One such day, a thought suddenly crossed my mind.
“Can I actually talk to AI at a time like this?”
When I actually tried it,
it turned out to be an experience that was a little strange, but also a little comforting.
It all started with a casual question
I woke up in the morning feeling a bit sluggish,
and without even thinking, I opened ChatGPT and typed this:
“I just can’t get motivated today.”
What I got in response was
not an encouraging “Let’s stay positive and do our best,” but words of empathy.
“We all have days like that. It’s important not to push yourself too hard.”
With that one sentence,
I realized that “I’d been blaming myself even though I wasn’t bothering anyone.”
AI Doesn’t Give You “Answers”—It Gives You “Questions”
The AI continued:
“Can you think of any reason why you might not be feeling motivated today?”
It was just like a question from a counselor.
So I replied, “I might not have slept very well last night.”
The response I got was:
“Lack of sleep can really affect your concentration, right? Why don’t you try doing just one thing today that’s kind to yourself?”
—For some reason, my heart felt a little lighter.
Insight: Motivation Isn’t Something You “Generate”—It’s Something That “Comes Back”
The more we try to “motivate ourselves,”
the more we end up blaming ourselves when we can’t.
But AI doesn’t judge our emotions as “right” or “wrong.”
- You don’t have to push yourself
- Try listening to your body
- Let’s start with something small
In this way, it guides you toward “finding balance.”
A Small Step Forward from My Conversation with the AI
In the end, that day I just did the laundry and then took a nap.
But strangely enough, the “guilt over not getting anything done” had disappeared.
Those few minutes of conversation with the AI flipped the switch that “allowed me to rest.”
In Closing | AI Can Also Be a “Cheerful Companion”
Of course, AI can’t replace a human.
But as “someone to vent feelings I can’t share with anyone else”, it was a very reliable presence.
If you ever have a day when you think, “I just can’t do this today…,”
try talking to the AI for just a little while.
You might be surprised by how kind its response is.
