Recalculating Osaka summers from 2020 through 2025

The old article labeled individual summers mild, record-breaking, or unusually humid without a source table. Some descriptions do not match the daily observations. This correction applies the same calculation to Osaka station data for all 62 days in July and August from 2020 through 2025.

Method

  • Osaka station 47772
  • July 1 through August 31 in each year
  • daily mean, maximum, minimum, and mean relative humidity
  • daily maximum at or above 35°C
  • daily minimum at or above 25°C
  • all 62 days available in each year

The data come from 12 JMA daily tables, from July 2020 through August 2025.

Within these six Osaka July–August periods, 2025 has the highest mean daily temperature, mean daily maximum, count at or above 35°C, and count with daily minimum at or above 25°C. The single highest maximum is 38.9°C in 2021, while 2025 has the lowest mean relative humidity.

Removed old claims

  • “2024 was near normal”: no climate-normal comparison had been performed.
  • record heatstroke hospitalizations in 2023: no fire-agency source was checked.
  • perceived temperature above 40°C: no calculation or conditions were recorded.
  • product and “brain cooling” recommendations: the weather comparison did not verify their effect.

Limits

Six years is not sufficient to establish a long-term climate trend. One Osaka station does not represent Japan. A daily minimum at or above 25°C is a daily proxy rather than a separately computed nighttime interval.

Conclusion

Using one method for Osaka July and August, 2025 ranks highest in period averages and high-temperature counts among 2020–2025. The single-day peak remains 2021, and mean relative humidity is lowest in 2025, so not every “heat” measure ranks the same. Read the table within its station, period, and metric limits.
